Walther, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
We made the decision to look for vacancies abroad for the future of our children. We came to the conclusion that our kids are more likely to stay in Europe one day than in South Africa where they are sure to move away from for a better life. Safety definitely played a role. The Netherlands is expensive so if you think you are coming over for money, then this is the wrong country for you. You will be able to have a decent life but you will give up some luxuries you were used to, however the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Can you tell us something how you do like the Netherlands?
I’ve only been here for a few weeks so I still have my “holiday glasses” on, however, I do find the culture very friendly, efficient and people have great pride for their country. It will take me some time to know my kids can play outside without supervision or my wife can walk into town without worrying if they will be ok. I was surprised by the weather, however, I did not expect it to be so humid. I thought we had landed in Durban by accident. I also appreciate the fact that the government institutions like the post office work and are on time.

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on.
I’ve just started at Growteq so have not been exposed to complete projects as yet however, the diversity of clients we do BI solutions for definitely gets the creative juices flowing.

Did the process of emigration go smoothly?
If you are organised and have all your paperwork in order, the process goes very smoothly.

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
The advice and assistance we received from summit developers has been very helpful and true to what they offered. I would however also do my own homework then you wont find any surprises.
