Hi Sean, when did you arrive in the Netherlands?
I arrived in the Netherlands in March 2023, along with my wife and our two-year-old daughter.

How did you experience the first few months in the Netherlands?
The first few months were both challenging and exciting. Moving to a new country with a young child, learning a new language and culture, starting a new job, and adapting to a new way of life brought many hurdles, but also plenty of rewarding experiences.

Does it feel like home?
Yes, absolutely. I distinctly remember returning from a holiday abroad and feeling relieved and appreciative of the good Dutch roads and infrastructure, this was the moment I realized the Netherlands had become my home.

Do you still live in the same house as in the beginning?
Yes, I’m still living in the same home since arriving.

How was it to learn the language? Was it easier or harder than expected?
Learning Dutch has been tougher than I initially expected. I’m still waiting for that true breakthrough moment where I feel completely confident using the language.

What do you miss most about South Africa?
I deeply miss the majestic African bush and the stunning mountains of the Cape.

What appeals to you most in the Netherlands?
The safety and vibrant live music scene are most appealing to me. Additionally, discovering how child-friendly everything is, from museums to parks, has been an unexpected joy.
