Devon Volkwyn

Devon Volkwyn came to the Netherlands in September 2021, together with his wife Cariece. Here you can read something about his story.

Devon, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
I always used to tell my family that if I were to immigrate, it would be to the Netherlands. A huge deciding factor for me was the learning and growth potential that Dutch companies and culture have to offer. Another was the endless opportunities that the Netherlands has to offer; from travel to job to education to living standards. The final one, besides the cycling culture, was that the Dutch are known to be the nation of coffee drinkers and I knew I would fit right in.

Can you tell us something how you do like the Netherlands?
I often get asked what the biggest culture shocks are that I’ve experienced, and I haven’t really been able to put my finger on them and I believe it’s because they aren’t necessarily shocks, they’re more “Ah, so that’s how it’s supposed to be”.

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on.
Currently, I’m working on a project called Insights. Insights’ purpose is to take all of the information gathered by clients over several years and make it useful for analysis, planning, forecasting and finding trends. Insights enforces us to work on front-end and back-end technologies which is what a curious developer like me wishes for.

Did the process of emigration go smoothly?
Our immigration process was astoundingly simple because of summit developers.

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
My wife and I often reflect on how summit’s consistent help from day one, made transitioning into the Netherlands that much easier. We are grateful to have them in our corner, come rain or shine.
