Charlotte Henrico
Hi Charlotte, how have you been since you arrived in the Netherlands?
Two years ago, my family and I packed our bags and expanded our horizons, trading the familiar comforts of South Africa for the exciting opportunity to build a new life in the Netherlands. As a software tester, it was more than just a change of scenery; it was a chance to grow personally and professionally, and to add a rich new chapter to our story.
With the incredible support of a forward-thinking company like summit developers, our transition was smoother than I ever expected. From visa paperwork to housing advice, they were there every step of the way, and still are, kindly stepping in to help with whatever we may need even though I now work for a different company. That level of care has made a lasting impact.
Life in the Netherlands has been full of learning. Dutch may be a cousin of Afrikaans, but it still keeps us on our toes. The culture is calm and practical, which we’ve come to admire. And while the weather is certainly different, we’ve embraced it (with the help of a few warm coats).
Our kids are thriving, we feel more settled, and we’re saving up for our first home here. The journey continues, but the future feels bright, and more and more like home.
