Raldo Tromp

During our recruitment trip to South Africa in October 2018 we spoke with several developers, including Raldo. We decided to offer him a job. When we returned to The Netherlands we asked him when he could come. Within a few weeks, early December 2018, he arrived in the Netherlands. As Raldo says: “It was always one of our dreams to move to the Netherlands because of the beautiful and friendly Dutch culture”.

Raldo, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
We moved to the Netherlands to ensure the safety and future of our family and future children. The Netherlands delivers a lot of challenging and exciting opportunities.

What are the differences you are experiencing?
The biggest difference between South Africa and The Netherlands is peace of mind. The Dutch people are very kind and always willing to help. The beautiful landscapes cannot be ignored and you cannot but help to enjoy the sunny days during the summer and the all so cozy snowy winter days.

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on
I currently work at a company that is full of exciting and challenging projects. You learn something new everyday and get to work on some interesting projects and technologies. Our projects rely a lot on self sustainable packages instead of third party dependency. We strife to implement dependency injections and interfaces make it possible to do so and makes unit testing a whole lot easier. We get to dive into the Geospatial environment and create magic for our clients. NoSQL makes life easier for us and creates a much more flexible database system.

How did the process of emigration go?
We always thought emigrating to The Netherlands would be a tedious and painful experience. This was not the case and I must say that the process was very easy and without a doubt worth it.

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
Thanks to summit developers we really didn’t have much to do at all. They took care of most of the admin and arrangements. They guided us throughout the process with regular feedback and assistance. It al went very smooth and before we knew it we had to board our plane.
