Nick de Beer

Nick is in the Netherlands since August 2019. He lives in the Netherlands together with Wilmie. Read more about his reasons for emigrating, and about his first impressions.

Nick, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
I was thinking of emigrating a long time before I actually made the choice, however, it did happen relatively quickly when I did decide to make the move. My main reasons for the move was stability of South Africa and it’s uncertain future for myself and my family.

Can you tell us something how you do like the Netherlands?
It’s great! It takes a bit of time to adjust, but summit developers made the transition super easy. The first thing I noticed was how the houses have no walls around them or bars on the windows. It’s refreshing to see how safe things are in the Netherlands.

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on
I’m currently placed at Info Support working for one of their clients ING. I’m doing a bit more Devops for this project where we are migrating their knowledge sharing platform to Azure and provisioning their system using Infrastructure as Code. After that I’m starting at MoneYou in the new year where I will be working in their webteam using Asp.Net Core and AWS.

Did the process of emigration go smoothly?
Very smoothly, Ton and Matthijs helped us with all the documentation and concerns we had beforehand. Once everything is set, they picked you up at the airport and take you to the IND to get your residence permit. Then it’s off to get you registered at the Gemeentehuis. After that they take you to your house to get you familiar with your town, where to do shopping and help you get settled in. I could not ask for a better experience!

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
summit developers made everything very easy, and they have a personal touch to things that other companies don’t have. They went over and above to prepare everything for you before hand. There’s also a support system in place in case you have any questions. I would definitely recommend them!
