Llewellyn Dawson

Llewellyn Dawson arrived in the Netherlands in November 2022. His wife Esme and children Noah, Caleb and Eligh will follow in January 2023. Llewellyn wrote about his first experiences.

Llewellyn, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
The decision to emigrate to the Netherlands was not an easy one for me and my family. But the reason why we did it is because the future for us here is by far better and the opportunities are endless. As through the eyes of a father and a developer.

Can you tell us something how you do like the Netherlands?
From the first moment I set foot in the Netherlands things were different. The Netherlands so far has been great with lots of history and culture. The biggest differences that I have experienced thus far is that public transport can work, the working environment is very family oriented and you feel safe no matter where you go.

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on.
I am currently working on a few projects for the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, the national library of the Netherlands, and it has to do with framework upgrades and we also wrote a new plugin that is used in these projects. The plugin has also been made available to the Drupal community for free.

Did the process of emigration go smoothly?
The process… What can I say? South African Home Affairs is not easy to work with and they take their time to supply you with all the required documents. Other than that, the process was easy, thanks to the support I received from summit developers. So if you decide to come to the Netherlands, please get all the documents from SA Home Affairs as soon as possible.

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
The support that I have received from summit developers was excellent and they guided us through every step with ease and they were and still is in constant communication with me. With special thanks to Ton, Matthijs and Paulien. Therefore I would highly recommend using them.
