Kevin Terblanche

We welcomed Kevin Terblanche in the Netherlands in March 2022. Kevin wrote about his experiences.

Kevin, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
I decided to emigrate to the Netherlands for better quality of life and more opportunities. With Afrikaans and Dutch being so similar that was another benefit in the decision making. I also have family and friends here in the NL with more looking at coming over. The Netherlands is also nice and central which makes it easy to travel around to other places and explore more of the world and different cultures.

Can you tell us something how you do like the Netherlands?
I really like the Netherlands especially for its safety. I knew that Netherlands was a very safe country but only once you are here do you actually realize how safe it is. I also like the fact that it’s safe enough for children to still ride bicycles around in the streets and play with their friends or even climb on a train alone to go to school. One thing that I had to get used to was in summer how late the sun sets which threw me off in the beginning and my normal night patterns were not the same anymore.

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on.
I am currently working on a project that allows patients to seek medical advice over a phone or laptop by answering some questions and then based on how serious the complaint is either they are directed to emergency numbers or of its not too serious they are put in contact with a GP who can then have an online conversation with them and provide the patient with needed info about the complaint. I’m enjoying it quite a lot and my team is also super awesome.

Did the process of emigration go smoothly?
The emigration process could not have gone smoother. I was aware every step of the way what was happening and updated the whole way of what needs to happen next. Most of the worries and stress of emigration are taken off your plate and summit developers really does an excellent job at handling everything that needs to be handled and set up and when something is required from your side it is very clear and super simple of what needs to be done in order to proceed.

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
After arriving there are a few things that needs to happen here in Netherlands to round off the whole process but even after arrival the whole team at summit developers are still as involved as from the beginning and help with everything that’s needed. And if anything comes up or there is a bump in the road you can always turn to them and ask for assistance and they will be more than happy to help where they can.
