Faizel Faker

Faizel Faker arrived in the Netherlands in December 2021, together with his wife Nehaal and their children Hanim, Nuha and Adam. Faizel wrote something about his experiences.

Faizel, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
We looked at a few countries and realised that we wanted to be in Europe. So after a lot of research, we found that the Netherlands ticked all our boxes and some more. The work life balance, one of the best healthcare systems in the world, central location to travel, similarities in the Dutch and Afrikaans languages, stable economy and employment opportunities. The education system is also excellent. The teachers really care about the children, the schools are well organised and very professional. Our children attend schools’ that have special programs that include Dutch lessons for expat children. They are comfortably assimilating into Dutch school life. There is also an abundance of opportunities for graduates and expats, especially if you have the correct skills and work experience.

Can you tell us something how you do like the Netherlands?
We arrived during the travel ban and lockdown which presented a few challenges but other than that everything else has really been awesome. Everything has a process, a schedule and works efficiently. Life in general is a lot more relaxed and less stressed. The safety and independence that children experience in the Netherlands is a huge difference. I am still amazed to see very young children riding their bicycles to and from school, playing in the park on their own and enjoying the outdoors. The Dutch are also very direct, structured, punctual and time is never wasted which is very refreshing.

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on.
I am working on projects at a global company that is a leading innovator of precision radiation therapy solutions and cancer care. The specific solution I am working on is used for the precise, targeted treatment of various cancers such as cervical, prostate and skin. My team members are very helpful and friendly, the company culture is great and the work is challenging and stimulating.

Did the process of emigration go smoothly?
Acquiring all the necessary South Africa documents was the hardest part but the process from there was very easy. summit developers managed the rest of the process and was always available to advise and assist at every step.

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
The experience was excellent. summit developers assisted us with everything including the paperwork, securing schools for our children, securing accommodation, making sure the accommodation facilities and amenities were set up, appointments with the relevant authorities, collecting our family of 5 at the airport, everything! The support we received from the team at summit developers was really excellent.
