Elzaan van Tonder

Elzaan van Tonder was the first developer we hired from South Africa. Together with her husband Chris she arrived in March 2018. Read more about her experiences.

Elzaan, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
It has always been a dream of mine to be able to work in another country, experience different things and different cultures. We also want to provide our children with the best future possible and feel that the Netherlands is a place that would provide just that.

Can you tell us something how you do like the Netherlands?
I do like living in the Netherlands. The level of safety compared to South Africa is far greater. We see children riding bicycles, catching fish and playing in the parks daily. The Dutch are very friendly and people in the community really support each other.

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on
I am currently working on a project at a software company in the Apeldoorn area. We have a team of around 10 developers. We use Scrum to plan all of our sprints and work for the coming weeks. Technologies and applications we make use of, include: C#, WPF, MongoDb (Robo 3T), Docker, GitLab, Jira, GitKraken etc. I have integrated well and enjoy working with the team.

Did the process of emigration go smoothly?
The process of emigration did go very smoothly. We didn’t have to struggle too much as we had a lot of help from the summit developers team.

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
The support we received was, and continues to be great. You are with us through every step of the process to make this stressful and exciting time much easier.
