André Viviers arrived in the Netherlands in January 2023. What a great start of a new year! Read more about the experiences of André.

André, why did you emigrate to the Netherlands?
I have always wanted to move overseas since I was young. I then started looking at places where I wanted to stay and decided on the Netherlands. What really convinced me was the culture and the surrounding environment (I love the woods, lakes, and general aesthetic of all the old buildings).

Can you tell us something how you do like the Netherlands?
I love it here, I’ve mostly found that the Dutch aren’t extremely nosey and mostly keep to themselves. However, when there is something that they do not agree with be sure they will let you know (I rather enjoy the directness). The biggest difference for me other than it being a first-world country would be the weather. It can get a whole lot colder in the winter than in South Africa. The other major difference would be that the cold doesn’t stop anyone from doing activities (Je bent niet gemaakt van suiker). In South Africa when it starts raining most people stay indoors, children don’t play outside when it’s raining (or in general since crime, etc.).

Please tell us something about the projects you are currently working on.
I am currently working with Blazor Serverside and Blazor Wasm projects integrating Microsoft Teams as an alternative option for voice/video collaboration on the Unexus platform.

Did the process of emigration go smoothly?
The process of emigration went extremely smoothly, once you have your passport visa, and airplane tickets you are pretty much ready to go thanks to the great support from summit developers.

Can you explain to the South Africans who are considering to go overseas how you did experience the support from us?
summit developers was there every step of the way, whenever I had questions or concerns they were just a message or email away and would get back to me within a day at most. They also simplify the process of emigration a lot by scheduling all the appointments that you need to attend in order to get the documents that are required.
